The Diecast-Aviation Website and Forum are proud to announce the launch of it's 2008 Bomber Command Day at Elvington in the shadows of it's Museum and the famous "Friday the 13th" Halifax.

We will have exclusive use of the Elvington Room for our event with the full programme including catering taking place in the function room that is a former WW2 nissen hut! Not as basic as it sounds....Bentley have used it for their car launches!

As you will see from the launch poster, we have managed to secure a trio of speakers. The primary speaker is Jim Shortland (co-author of ‘Dambusters in Focus’), a very well know expert on 617 Squadron and the Lancaster. Jim’s audio visual presentation is titled ‘Lancaster Firsts’ and is I think self explanatory!

Andrew Dixon from the Yorkshire Air Museum is giving us a brief history of Elvington’s wartime operations and Phil Kemp , the Halifax Project Leader will also give us a talk on ‘Friday the 13th’.

Our 2008 film screening will be the WW2 classic propaganda film, ‘Target for Tonight’. Featuring no actors as all on screen were serving air and groundcrew (who can name the most famous?)

Add morning coffee/tea and a two course buffet lunch, the famous free entry DAF Raffle, a display of all 1/72 Corgi and other metal Bomber Command models and the chance to view all public access hangars at Elvington and the recently launched ‘Against all Odds’ exhibition and you will see that we would struggle to fit more in!

Oh but we are again hoping to be hoping to be honoured by the presence of one or more veterans. This year, we are especially pleased to have representation from 617Squadron and those present will be happy to chat , sign books etc. You will, however appreciate that the attendance of veterans is very much dependant on good health etc so we must stress this is very much subject to availability on the day.

The ticket price of £32.50 is regrettably higher than the 2007 event but we have worked very hard to keep costs to the minimum possible.

Now, to the UNIQUE offers........

Internal Halifax Tours- DAF Members only

A unique offer open only to DAF members will be the opportunity to purchase an optional INTERNAL guided tour of Friday 13th. There will be two tours , each lasting 1 hour and the first will commence after the main event at 3pm. The tours will cost £28 but please note that they normally cost £60 and ALL proceeds will go to the YAM.

Places are extremely limited with only 8 available. Names will be drawn out of the hat of all DAF members who at the time of booking have expressed a wish to take a tour. Names will be drawn out of the hat at the end of May so book early and please also state your Diecast-Aviation Forum name when booking. DO NOT SEND MONEY FOR THIS WITH YOUR BOOKING BUT STATE IF YOIU WOULD LIKE THE CHANCE TO BUY A PLACE.

One place will however be up for grabs for free when the DAF raffle returns!!

Signed ‘Dambusters in Focus’ Books – DAF Members only

Also available on a first come, first served basis will be a limited number of fantastic ‘Dambusters in Focus’ books signed by Jim Shortland, Mark Postlethwhaite and a number of 617 Squadron veterans . The book retails at £19.99 but these few unique copies (8 in total) will be available for £30. Again , please state when booking if you would like one of these books. Books will be picked up at the event as Jim will try and add additional signatures over the Summer at the Bomber Command aircrew reunions he is is attending. DO NOT SEND MONEY FOR THIS WITH YOUR BOOKING BUT STATE IF YOU WOULD WISH THE CHANCE TO BUY A COPY.

Ordinary copies of the book will also be for sale on the day (no reservation necessary) and Jim and any veterans present will be happy to sign them

External Tours of Friday 13th – Open to DAF Members and Public Bookings
Also available on a first come, first served basis to DAF members and public alike will be a limited number of ‘Friday 13th’ EXTERNAL tour places at £10 each. Again, please state when booking if you would wish the chance to take such a tour. DO NOT SEND MONEY FOR THIS WITH YOUR BOOKING BUT STATE IF YOU WOULD WISH THE CHANCE TO BUY A PLACE.

Receipts will be sent out electronically to DAF members in due course and we will contact those who are successful in getting the chance to purchase one of our special offers.Please can I remind all DAF members to also state their forum name when booking. This is most inportant and for your own benefit!

Formal tickets will be sent out by post closer to the event.
